about

This an old banger I wrote in senior year of high school while directing my production of Tennessee Williams The Glass Menagerie. I was relating a lot to the character Tom because of the expectations pressed upon him by his family as the breadwinner. I was about to graduate with no real plan and I was angry at society. Late one night I wrote some uneven lyrics based upon what was happening to Tom in the play. These lyrics were practically untouched in the final recording.

Around this time of my life, The Spotify Discover Gods were treating me well, and I have a very sentimental playlist of new songs. One of which was Coloured Emotions by Night Moves. I must admit I was heavily inspired by (I stole) the first 3 notes of the opening riff. I was pretty unfamiliar with Colored Emotions when I recorded Expectation and didn't realize there was a harmonica solo in it when I put a melodica solo in my song.

The music was pretty much improved on an organ preset, then I added more to it. The drums are sourced from a cheap toy Casio keyboard I had as a child put through some spring reverb. The final result I admit is an epic cheesy headbanger. Thank god I didn't include it in my play.

The cover represents Lara's glass unicorn, Tom's cigarette, and Mr Wingfield's 78 record collection. There are invisible strings attached to the unicorn representing Amanadas manipulation.

lyrics

Why you tryna' get me so frustrated all the time
Shattered pieces on the living room floor
Illusion takes hold
you can't understand your sunshine anymore

You got expectation,
Expectation
oh why
Expectation,
Expectation
oh why

Too Soon reality blooms
And then you're back in blue Mountain With
Seventeen other grooms

Motivation when the reasons so dire
Drives a young man
To hide his true desires
Mr. Wingfeild I forget that's me
I guess I understand
Long-distance set my old man free

Set me free yeah
From expectation

Expectation
oh why
Expectation

What's it like to be a glass figurine?
Your growing expectations
What's it like to be a glass figurine
Yeah

Rocco Desgres Northampton, Massachusetts

Hello I'm Rocco Desgres. Singer and Synthesizer player of Moving Day. All of these songs are recorded with tapes on damaged tape players. I use totally or mostly analogue equipment. Music sounds way better when it's ripped apart into an uncountable amount of pieces and put back together ...right? Which is ironic because this platform is digital. ... more
